  A USB device has been created by New York-based security experts int3.cc called the usb condom. The USB is condom is a small chip that comprises of both male and female ports. The device which is described by Crowd Supply, the company that market the product, as ‘a protective barrier between your device and "juice-jacking" hackers.’ The device allows users to plug their phones or tablets into any USB ports without risking being infected with a virus and also keep sensitive data secure. The research is aims at protecting against fake public charging stations that can download data from user plugged in device.

  The USB cables are made up of different cables, wrapped in a single protective casing which each having a different function, two serving to provide electricity while another transfer data. The gadget initially started out as an experiment, and the company said they ‘didn’t think much more about it’ and were surprised by its popularity now. When a Smartphone is connected to a computer, it automatically connects and its removable media mode is then activated, that makes all files in the internal storage accessible to the PC,’ warns security firm, Kapersky.

  The device serves as an intermediary between your device and the unknown USB port, effectively severing any data connection but linking up the power cables for charging only. "USB Condoms" prevent accidental data exchange when your device is plugged in to another device with a USB cable. USB Condoms achieve this by cutting off the data pins in the USB cable and allowing only the power pins to connect through which prevent attacks like "juice jacking". 

  So you can now charge your phone on your work computer, at the charging stations in public without worrying. Place the device as an "always on" adapter on your existing USB/Sync cable and remove only when you want to sync. Turn a normal USB cable into a "charge only" cable if you're going to run around plugging your phone into strange USB ports. At least your devices are now safe on the go and you are sure that when you are charging your device, no other activity is going on.
