‘DEAD MAN' FOUND BREATHING INSIDE ZIPPED-UP BODY BAG IN A MORTUARY
A man by the name Valdelucio Goncalves, 54, who is being treated for stomach cancer, was taken to the hospital by his family on Saturday morning when he woke up struggling to breathe he was later declared dead by doctors in Menandro de Farias General Hospital in Salvador, northeast Brazil, where they
claimed he had suffered "respiratory and multiple organ failure". The hospital authorities later informed the family and his body taken to the morgue (mortuary) in the same hospital.

But the acclaimed diseased grieving brother Walterio, got the shock of his life the next morning, when he was allowed into the morgue to dress his body ready for funeral. As Walterio approached the body bag, he noticed his 'dead' sibling "wiggling" inside the zipped-up bag where the body had been laid on a table top all night. "We had already made all the arrangements for my brother's funeral" Walterio told Brazil's G1 website. All that was remaining was to put some new clothes on him, so he had be ready for collection by the undertaker. "Workers at the morgue let me in, and showed me where he was lying, in a zipped-up body bag, but as I got closer I could see it wriggling and raising and falling as if he was breathing. I went crazy and shouted for the medical team, the nurse, so they could see what was happening. They checked him and confirmed that he was still alive Walterio added. He was later transferred to another hospital, Santo Antonio in Salvador at the request of his family members.
Mr Goncalves who cannot speak, in a letter wrote that he believed he had been brought back from the dead by Blessed Irma Dulce, a Franciscan Sister who is honored as a saint with miraculous powers in Brazil. He added: "I, Valdelucio, saw death at my feet, but my faith was so great that I was cured and before the Irma Dulce I said, do a miracle in me, and she heard my prayer and i saw my mother telling me, son, hold onto her and you will be saved."
The health department for the state of Bahia said they had opened an inquiry into the bungle. Director of the Meandro de Faria General Hospital, Margarida Mirando, said in a statement that she "will meet with the team involved in the patient's care to clarify the events which allowed the incident to happen." I think the man was pretty lucky, isn't he?
