Avtar Singh Mauni
warrior order of Sikhs, known as Nihangs. He needs an astonishing six hours to get himself ready because of his long turban, The 100lb headgear is the length of 13 Olympic swimming pools when unwrapped and takes six-hours for Avtar Singh Mauni to put on and he holds the world record for the longest turban. Other Sikhs wear turbans that measure about 5-7m, but Avtar from Patiala, in the Punjab, has taken it to a whole new level. It took Singh 16 years to put together the 645m long turban to beat the existing Guinness World Record of 400m. The 60-year-old holy man is carrying the weight of a moped (a low-power, lightweight motorized bicycle) on his head. Avtar says he took the length up in stages measuring from 150m to 250m, 365m and finally a shocking 645m to break the existing record.
"Until the time I have no more have strength in my limbs I will carry this turban on my head, I don't consider it to be a burden. I'm most happy when I wear it. On the rare times I don't have my turban on I keep getting this feeling of being incomplete, that some part of me is missing. I get afraid that I may fall and I keep wondering 'have I lost something" - said Avtar. The size of his headgear makes entering doorways a nightmare and getting into a car is impossible, so he always rides on his motorcycle. This huge headgear has made Avtar become something of a celebrity, but he said the attention is not always welcome so I loudly tell them to stop, since it took me hours to put on my turban and all they want is to take a quick picture and then run away.

Mr Avtar effort has turned pretty impressive in many Sikh communities. Gurpreet Singh, who affectionately refers to Avtar as Babaji - which means grandfather - says the giant turban has helped reawaken love for their religion among younger people."These days many Sikh children choose to cut their hair and have forgotten to wear turbans. But Babaji remind us of its importance, which is very good". - added Gurpreet. How long does it take you to get yourself ready, smile.
